Dear Mister President, dear students, distinguished guests:
It is now my task and pleasure to announce the prize winners of the ‘Economist Club Luxembourg Prize for the Best Master Thesis in Economic and Finance 2016’.
The Economist Club Luxembourg is both young – it was born on 16 June 1998 – but it also bears the prestigious heritage of its ancestor, ADUSEC (Association of Graduate Students in Economics and Business Administration) founded in 1963, as such we are very proud to support talented students of the University of Luxembourg.
Economics and finance are vast topics, many things have been analysed and understood, but both the world and the human being change continuously, as such there is still a lot to be analysed and understood.
That’s why we need talented people and why the ECL wants to stay close to the best talented students on the University of Luxembourg in they early steps into the academic environment: to help them, to encourage them.
In the academic year 2015-2016, a very strong cohort of students was enrolled in the Research Track of the Master in Economics and Finance. This explains why the ECONOMIST CLUB LUXEMBOURG PRIZE FOR THE BEST MASTER THESIS IN ECONOMICS AND FINANCE 2016 will be awarded to and shared by two very good students.
The selection committee which includes Professor Michel Beine, the head of the Center for Research in Economics and Management, Professor Andreas Irmen, the course director of the Research Track of the Master in Economics and Finance, and myself, with the support of the entire Board of the ECL, decided to jointly award
The Economist Club Luxembourg Prize for the best Master Thesis in Economics and Finance 2016
to:
1. Ms. Anastasia Chaikina for her master thesis “Banking Union in a Monetary Union”
2. Mr. Alexey Vasilenko for his master thesis “Disruptive Innovation Momentum and the Cross-Section of Stock Returns”
Congratulations to both on winning the prize and the outstanding quality of their master theses!
Unfortunately, neither Ms. Chaikina nor Mr. Vasilenko, two outstanding Russian exchange students from the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, can be with us tonight. However, I can assure them in their absence that the prize money of 1.500 Euro for each co-winner will make it into their current accounts in the upcoming days.
Before we pass on, please, listen to the greetings from Moscow that Ms. Chaikina and Mr. Vasilenko sent us.
Thank you very much!
